We here at Navitas have been eagerly awaiting the annoucement of the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year, as we are every year at this time! Today was the big day, in case you haven't heard the news yet.
Pantone introduces Ultra Violet as the Color of the Year for 2018!
If you aren't familiar with Pantone's color of the year process, you should know a lot of thought and meaning goes into this selection; it's not about just spinning the color wheel and seeing which color the needle lands on. A specific quote from Pantone Color Institute's Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman further explains the meaning behind Ultra Violet:
"We are in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come".
Purple isn't exactly a trendy or popular color in design today whether it's graphic and web design, fashion design, or interior design, which may have something to do with Pantone's choice in Ultra Violet. Not only does the color itself portray the feelings and emotions of the future, possibilites, and spirtuality, but the selection of this left-behind and forgotten color may be suggesting that we should all be exploring beyond what is right in front of us on a daily basis and to always keep an open mind, which is something that new discoveries and growth require.
